What’s on my Shelf: Relationships & Lifestyle Editor Emmi Bowles

A book lover’s bookshelf can contain many wonderful, interesting, and intriguing books, some that you might not have even heard of yet – and our new books coloumn, ‘What’s On My Shelf’ allows a glipse into the bookselves of our editors here at Kettle. This week, you can find out what lines relationships & lifestyle editor Emmi Bowles’s bookshelf.

I love reading and it is a massive part of my life. Not only because it is my way of relaxing and de-stressing – but I run my own book blog where I review everything I read, so of course I have a massive collection of books.

Shelf Overview

As a student I am constantly between different homes and therefore don’t have a set bookshelf. At university I have a small bookcase for the books I want to read, though most out of those are left on my to-be-read list. Whilst at home I have boxes of books, some which have been read, and some which are waiting to be swapped out for the ones at university.

My kindle shelf is just as packed as my university shelf. Kindle books are brilliant in my opinion because you can get them cheaper than most paperbacks and hardbacks, and you can carry hundreds of books around with you as well. As a reviewer for NetGalley I always have at least 10 unread books on my kindle at one time.

Both my physical and ebooks mainly consist of young adult novels with a few classics and new adult books thrown into the mix.

Top 5 books on my shelf

At university I have the famous Harry Potter series – which I am still yet to read – along with the bestselling series Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas, which are definitely up there on my top 5.

My John Green collection is also up there in my top 5, with Looking for Alaska and The Fault in Our Stars taking up two of the five spots, mainly because they are some of my favourite books.

The fifth book on the list has to go to my old copy of To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee which belonged to my Great Grandmother who was an English teacher. This is one of my favourite books of all time and her notations within the pages makes it even more special.

Beautiful Books

I love books with beautiful covers – I am a sucker for buying books based on their cover alone. There is one series however I would say not only has beautiful covers, but also a beautiful story to match – and that’s the Anna and the French Kiss series by Stephanie Perkins. It’s a beautifully written Young Adult book series which has everything you could ask for in a contemporary book, and is perfect for the summer.

What I’m currently reading

Currently I am reading some books for review on my kindle which included the new Geek Girl special by Holly Smale. But I am also about to start I Heart Paris by Lindsey Kelk, a new adult book in the I Heart Series which is by far one of my favourite new adult series to date. It’s perfect for anybody looking to move away from young adult books and into the new adult genre.
