Valentine’s Day is this time of year when your Facebook home page is flooded with couples exhibiting their love and expecting you to enjoy seeing their mushy pictures and statuses.

Well, for Valentine’s Day at least they have an excuse, as it is the day of love. But for any other day of the year, should we, single people in desperation in front of our screens, really tolerate such flavourless behaviour?

Here are the top 5 annoying things couples do online:

Taking pictures of gifts they offered to each other

Didn’t he buy it for you, and not for the whole world to see? Why do you need to take a picture of this bouquet he just brought you tonight? I mean yes, these flowers are very nice, but you don’t need to prove to the whole world he is being nice to you!

Super dramatic statuses after a dispute

It is crazy how sometimes you can feel part of something without asking anything. This is what happens when you read a status like “The toughest part of letting go is realizing that the other person already did,” or “The worst kind of pain is when you smile only to stop the tears in your eyes.” Ok, so now I know something happened between them two, but what can I do? I know they will be back together two hours from now, if they are not already.

Logging in to lover’s Facebook to write love messages

After wondering why would anyone do this, I came to the conclusion it is a pretty damn good proof you need to prove something to yourself. Let people live without seeing your love declarations. If your boyfriend doesn’t write a status saying how much he loves you, it probably is because he doesn’t want to! So don’t force him, his private words to you are worth much more than a fake gushing Facebook status.

Changing surname to the one of their other half

Marriage at 16 is not something very common anymore and changing your surname to the one of your lover doesn’t prove to anyone in anyway that your love is stronger! In addition to that, don’t change your relationship status to ‘married,’ because when it appears to change to ‘it’s complicated’ and ‘single’ in two weeks time, this doesn’t make you look very credible.

Selfies

And the award for the most annoying things couples do online goes to… selfies! Oh yes people, I can see that desperate look on your face scrolling down your Facebook wall and seeing these cheesy couples pictures wondering how many of them they took before managing to both look that happy and crazily in love.

Photos in bed together are probably the worst selfies ever. Please couples, for the sake of everyone, stop sharing that!

(Oh, and if you go on holidays and want us to envy you and like your pictures, show at least a bit of landscapes behind your faces.)
