If you're stuck for something to do this winter and are bored of the over crowded Christmas markets, then we've got a suggestion for you. This December Sudeley Castle in Gloucestershire will be transformed by brillant display of light and sound for 23 special days. Visitors will be able to experience, what is official the Cotswolds' most romantic place, in a way like they never have before, as the castle and grounds are brought to life by the Spectacle of Light.
The family friendly event has been created by Michael Dale and Nic Beeby, who have previously worked at the world famous Edinburgh International and Fringe festivals and is set to show the historic venue off in a way like no other.
“We decided to create an exciting after-dark experience at Sudeley that would appeal to all ages, where everyone can follow a trail of light around the gardens and into the romantic ruins,” said Nic Beeby, who lives in Cheltenham. It could be that perfect winter date idea, something different to do with your university classmates before you head home for Christmas or something to treat the parents too.
From ancient trees to water features to the historic castle itself a dazzling arrangement of light and sound will provide a picturesque trail for people to follow and a few surprises have been promised along the way! Given that it could be a little chilly there will even been warm winter food and drinks on the castle terrace. A ready made cosy winter night!
Lady Ashcombe, who owns this great venue, said: “We are terribly excited about hosting this spectacle. We would normally be closed in the winter, but decided it would be a magical experience for visitors to be able to enjoy Sudeley by night. No-one has really seen the house and grounds lit up in this way.” As someone who knows the venue inside out, she has to be correct, right?
So why not change up your winter evenings. Students, couples, family or friends head down to Sudeley Castle and check out this Spectacle of Light. Before then check out just how amazing it is set to be here.
Spectacle of Light runs from 1st to 23rd December and will have specific entry time slots starting from 5pm onwards each evening. Pick up tickets online here or if you're local head to Cheltenham Everyman Theatre.
