Frivolity

I never knew that! with Kettle Political Editor, Bridie Pearson-Jones

At Kettle Mag the editors remain hidden away in Kettle towers occupying themselves with ideas, proofing, tweeting and keeping their ears tuned to the latest news. But what do we know about these busy creatures? Here at frivolity over the coming weeks we intend to find out…and this week we knocked at the door of  political editor Bridie Pearson-Jones.

My parents don’t know this about me but…

I’ve just been asked to do my University’s 2016 naked calendar (it’s for charity). And I said yes!

What is your favourite word that rhymes with Kettle?

Petal, (I love flowers but also have pretty bad hayfever, so it’s kinda awks).

How long after you wake up do you check your phone?

Well it’s my alarm, so straight away!

Stranded on a desert island you wouldn’t be without…

A boat!

What is the most revolting food you’ve ever eaten?

I hate any kind of seafood, my boyfriend talked me into eating Sushi once and it was not a fun experience.…I also lived in China for a while and I just didn’t question what I was eating, I told myself all meat was chicken or beef, but god knows what I was actually putting in my mouth. This was immediately after 12 years of vegetarianism too, I’m a bit of a meatophobe.

Which politician would you most like to interview and why?

I know he’s not technically a politician but Edward Snowden. He’s an incredibly influential man and I’d love to chat to him about state secrets. Most British politicians I’ve interviewed are very whipped and boring, so I’d have to opt for someone who isn’t British or is an ex-politician. I think Galloway would be interesting purely because he says what he really thinks. Obama – sheerly for the street cred. Although, I’d love to speak to Trump and attempt to get into his crazy mindset.

If you couldn’t edit the Politics section for Kettle, which section would you choose?

Oooh that’s a toughy (I love all of Kettle!) probably women, or sex and relationships. Although media would be super interesting too!

Which friend that you met at uni is likely to be at your 60th birthday party?

All of them! My best friend Ros who I know from halls is my absolute rock. But I also love my housemates to bits.

Wine or beer?

Wine.

Cat or dog?

Dog.

Football or rugby?

Football (specifically Reading FC!).

Android or iphone?

iPhone (I’m an apple addict.)

Apart from writing, what other creative talents do you have?

I do a bit of dance, and attempt to draw but not very well! I do lots of radio too, so I guess that counts! I also love decorating (I’m not sure if that counts but I have a really cool bedroom).

If you were a punctuation mark, what would you be?

A full stop – I end things.

What is your most unappealing habit?

My friends call me a dictator…take from that what you will. I also swear too much and wake my housemates up with early morning smoothie making.

What would you like to be remembered for?

Winning the nobel prize for literature.

Have you ever volunteered for anything?

I’ve volunteered at lots of festivals for a few different charities, and done loads of charity work for Children in Need. My mum use to work for BT, so for years I helped man the phones in the Children in Need and Comic/Sport’s Relief teleathons. Technically all my journalism work is voluntary too.

Who so far, family or otherwise has influenced you in your life?

Wow that’s tough. Sorry to be a cliché, but my parents influence and inspire me everyday. I sound sycophantic but I surround myself with people who influence me in a positive way, especially my fellow student journos.

Which emoji do you use most frequently?

Probably the heart, kissy face is a close second.

What was the last song you listened to on your ipod/phone?

Back and Forth, Foo Fighters – it’s the best song to do pull-ups to.

What was the last thing you googled?

“Where do Squibbs go to school?” I’m clearly a very productive person who studies hard and never procrastinates.

What is your most over used word or expression?

I swear way too effing much. Apparently I say ‘like’ a lot too.

What keeps you awake at night?

Too much coffee!
