British Grand Prix: Lewis Hamilton claims his fourth British GP victory at Silverstone

Lewis Hamilton is now a point behind team-mate Nico Rosberg in their World Championship fight after leading every lap of the race from start to finish securing another dominant victory for Mercedes.Lewis claimed his third successive victory at Silverstone, the fourth of his F1 career despite the race getting underway behind the safety car at the start due to heavy rain.

Rosberg came into third place after a tough battle with Red Bull’s Max Verstappen. The German was overtaken by Max during lap 17 but he managed to take back second place by passing him round the outside of Stowe with ten laps remaining. However Nico sufffered gearbox issues during the remaining laps and was told to avoid going in seventh gear and shift through it. Rosberg was handed a 10 second time penalty and dropped into third place after an investigation by stewards for radio transmissions aiding the driver during the gearbox failure.

Second place Max Verstappen made a remarkable pass on Rosberg through the Becketts sweeps to take second place during lap 17 but then lost time running wide at turn one before reporting his rear tyres had started to go off. Red Bull team-mate Daniel Ricciardo finished fourth, half a minute behind Hamilton.

McLaren driver Fernando Alonso went off at turn one and spun all the way towards the barrier but managed to avoid the gravel make it back to the circuit. Alonso finished in 13th place and team-mate Jenson Button in 12th.

Sebastian Vettel went for dry tyres during lap 16 but ended up running wide into turn one until he managed to gain control and return to the track. Vettel also made a good pass on Toro Rosso driver Daniil Kvyat during lap 19 but faced a five second time penalty for forcing Felipe Massa off the track. Unlike team- mate Kimi Raikkonen taking in fifth place, Vettel finished in just 9th place for Ferrari.

Renault driver Jolyon Palmer appeared to have some bad luck on the track today as he faced an early setback from the pit stop when he was released without a right wheel and then later on he was forced to retire from the race with 11 laps to go, making it his fifth retirement from the British GP. The four DNFs drivers during the race were Romain Grosjean, Marcus Ericsson and two Manors drivers Pascal Wehrlein and Rio Haryanto.
