Ten alternative date ideas

Think about how many dates you have been on in your lifetime. Now think about how many of those dates involved doing something genuinely exciting or fun. Most dates consist of either going to the cinema or going out for a meal, which are nice, but somewhat repetitive. Here are ten different date ideas to help make your date nights more exciting.

Go to a concert

Going to see a band or solo singer is an exillarating way to have fun together. Not only does it create a great deal of excitement, but it is also a definite ice breaker, as you have no choice but to let your hair down, have fun, and sing your heart out. Maybe take it in turns to pick a performer to go and see, or even find a venue that you both feel comfortable in and go and see some local artists.

Go to a theme park

Head to a theme park and take a spin on your favourite rides. Not only will you get to see how much of a thrill seeker your date is, you will also be able to get to know each other when you are having to que up for each ride. Discussing the attractions at the park also makes a great conversation starter.

Play a sport together

It doesn’t matter if you’re the next big footballer, or the clumsiest person on earth, because it is all about having fun. You can either make the date super competitive, or just make it a bit of fun. Either way, this is an effective way of keeping fit whilst having a laugh with someone that you feel comfortable with.

A walk in the park

A date doesn’t have to cost you an arm and a leg. If you want to keep it simple, head down to your local park and take a relaxing stroll. If one of you has a pet dog, maybe suggest bringing the dog along with you. This is an easy but effective way for the both of you to bond, and even get to know each other if this is your first date.

Make dinner together

I get that you’re probably bored of going out for dinner, but you can always mix it up a little bit and make dinner together at home. I don’t mean buy a ready-made meal and put it in the microwave. I mean make a meal from scratch. Get organised and head to the supermarket, head home and get cooking.

Go bowling

It may be an old one, but it’s a classic. Bowling is the ideal way to have fun whilst letting your competitive side show. If there is not a clear winner after you finish your games, head to the arcade afterwards to settle the argument and show off your skills on the dance mat.

Watch the sunset

Obviously I would only advise this one for the warmer months of the year. Grab a blanket and a bottle of wine (or two), sit out in the back garden, and enjoy the light nights, then watch the sun go down. Not only is this a romantic way to end the evening, it is also extremely relaxing.

Go to the beach

If you are lucky enough to live near a beach, or in travelling distance of one, then take full advantage of this. Grab your beach towel, make up a picnic, and get ready to soak up that sunshine.

Quiz Night

Get down to your local pub for their weekly quiz night. Get the drinks in, make up a fun team name and get ready to show off about how much general knowledge you have about everything and anything.

Visit another city

Whether it’s for a weekend, or just a day, visiting another city can be exciting for the both of you. Play tourist for the time that you are there, and explore. Don’t forget to take your camera as you never know what photo opportunities will come up whilst you are there.

Of course, people will always want to stay traditional by going out to a restaurant, and there is nothing wrong with that at all. It’s just fun to be creative every once in a while. And that’s what dates are all about. Having fun.
