Kettle Mag interview Highasakite

With their new album Camp Echo out now (if you missed it, you can check out our review of the album here), Highasakite are set to take the music world by storm. We sent a few questions to the band, and this is what band member Marte had to say.

Your lyrics range from personal to political. What does it take for something to inspire you to write a song?

Life in general.

Your new album Camp Echo is out now. What would you say sets it apart from your previous records?

I think this record is more electronic, darker, maybe more pop-inspired. The last record was about “the war at home”, now it is more about what is going on in the world. We have been very inspired by 90s music and the style from the same years.

‘Someone Who’ll Get It’ is a powerful song. What was your inspiration behind it?

Loneliness.

Your debut album Silent Treatment holds the record for the longest consecutive run in Norwegian chart history. That’s such a big achievement. What are your aspirations for the next year?

We were very lucky and we had some amazing years with the Silent Treatment record. It is really hard to achieve the same with the Camp Echo album, so our dream now is just that people will like the album and listen to our music and come out to our concerts. We really love playing concerts for our fans! That’s the best!

Apart from the performances, what’s your favourite part of going on tour?

I really like to go to sleep in one city and wake up in another city when we are travelling in our tour bus. Also, to drink my first cup of bad coffee and tell the band members and our crew about my dreams that night. And listen to theirs as well of course.

As a band, you’ve travelled around on tour a fair amount. Would you rather be able to speak every language in the world fluently or be the best in the world at something of your choosing?

It would be sooo nice to speak every language in the world fluently. I don’t think you will ever feel that you can be the best in the world at something. Maybe something in sports, but that would not last forever anyway.

Finally, do you have a message for our readers?

Be kind to each other. It’s ok to cry and laugh. A lot!
